Every eye is on the prize
Grass green, spring buds bright
Gingerly, kids begin to search
Hovering high and crawling
Under, leaving
No speckled
Treat unfound

Gollum
Last night we watched the first two Hobbit movies for the first time (aside from my husband having seen only the first one). My youngest has such a sensitive heart that immediately went out to Gollum. She was very upset after Bilbo had stolen his precious ring, leaving him so distraught. This in turn had my husband revealing more of his story, trying to convince her that Gollum shouldn't have the evil ring, and that he ends up being more of a hero of sorts. My youngest then proceeded to ask why there wasn't a Gollum day, leading us to declare the day before Easter, Gollum Day, to celebrate the eerie awesomeness that is Gollum. So, today was Gollum Day for us, which meant ordering pizza and watching the last Hobbit movie and the first two Lord of the Rings movies. I am wondering if we will actually remember Gollum Day next year, but I have to admit, it was kind of a fun random day to celebrate. The day before Easter? Why not! Anyways, so I decided to write up a quick Gollum acrostic poem to go with our lovely Gollum Day:
Gently creeping, following
Over the craggy rocks
Lulled by his own voice as he
Longs for his precious ring
Urges of violence rising from the other
Man dwelling inside

sea witch
Simply calm, wandering about the beach
Energy flowing through her
As the Ocean calls
Willowing fingers skimming the waters
Inching deeper to find
That hidden treasure
Carefully placed by the Sea's frothing fingers,
Her silky hands caressing the sands

beach
Breezy sea air, filling my lungs
Edging through my body
Always that lull, that swooshing of the waves
Ceasing my worries and pains
Honoring the slippery spirit within

fingers
Firmly grasping the needle, skin cracked and peeling,
Instinctively weaving through the fabric, over and under;
Never straying from its path
Gingerly creating a masterpiece
Engraved upon the quilt with thread that catches the
Rays of the sun, glistening with a
Story that will warm others for generations

the gargoyle
He sat, fixed upon the pointed roof
staring out into the darkness;
his eyes intensely drawn in all directions,
his feet grasping tightly, keeping balance.
His stone demeanor, unmoving
as noises clicked softly and rhythmically
from his throat.
His talons scrape against the roof
as his dark wings quickly unfold
and take him to the ground.
His face gnarled and grotesque
before the intruder;
his large wings menacing
as they encase the surroundings,
frightening the unwelcomed
to flee and never return.
The wings whip the air as
he is taken back to his spot
upon the roof to keep a still watch,
to be the guardian, the protector.

I hide in the darkness
I hide in the darkness,
his power hunting me
like a whisper in the night.
His white fangs pierce my skin,
draining my soul;
my red blood staining his
savage teeth.

His vampire blood
courses through me.
Black fire kisses my soul,
whispering lies of death
as the raven calls
to the creature within.

winter wonderland
I step out into the cold,
my naked feet deep in snow.
I wiggle my toes,
raise my head,
and inhale the winter winds.
I know it is cold,
though I don't feel it.
I don't feel the numbness
on my toes or on my face.
I don't feel the chill
on my skin.
I feel nothing but
the peace of such beauty.
I see a growing light up high,
almost blinding.
A light that wants to consume me,
so I walk towards it.

umbrella
Underneath the canopy,
My space
Beneath the dripping rains-
Remembering nothing but
Endless puddles before my
Longing solemn gaze;
Losing myself
Amidst the wet hazy maze.

in the dark of night
In the dark of night,
the creature possesses
my strange dream;
his whispers pierce my skin,
silently stealing my soul
with his ancient powers.

I glance at my hands
I glance at my hands
wondering why...
darkness beneath my skin.
I look about me
wondering how...
my view is my sin.
I crave something,
wondering what...
feeling lost within.
A voice whispering,
wondering who...
knowing its not my kin.

Uncertain of being heard

death succumbs to life

her breath
Her breath is filled with hate,
screaming.
Her heart is pounding
against her broken chest,
searching.
Seeking the truth though
blinding.
All becomes silent, still,
drowning.

my ode to the honey bee
I can feel the grass between my toes
as the sun warms my face.
An innocent bee bumbles by,
buzzing in my ear as it searches for
the nectar of the nearby flowers.
I wonder what it's like
to fly through life with one intent.
I marvel at the bee's size as
I understand his grand purpose.
His desire to gather the hidden
treasures within the flowers
to make his prized honey,
trailing pollen along the way.
