Free Monster High Mini Cape Crochet Pattern

Created by Paperdollmom, Copyright 2015

If you want to view the free crochet pattern of this matching skirt, please click here.

Materials: crochet thread size 10, crochet hook size 6

- Chain 41, SC in second chain from the hook
- SC across for 7 rows, making sure to chain 1 at the end of each row before turning
- SC in the first 7 sts, decrease 1 SC 3 times, SC in the next 14 sts, decrease 1 sts 3 times, SC in the last 7 sts, chain 1, turn
- SC in the first 5 sts, decrease 1 SC 4 times, SC in the next sts, decrease 1 SC, SC in the next 2 sts, decrease 1 SC, SC in the next sts, decrease 1 SC 4 times, SC in the last 5 sts, chain 1, turn
- SC in the first 3 sts, then continue a pattern across of chain 3, SC in next stitch, then be sure to SC in the last 3 sts (this is the ruffle collar), chain 1, turn
- SC across

*You can tack down the collar in spots that you feel look best, or leave it as is. I tacked down my collar 3 ruffles in on each side, simply by sticking my hook into a row below while I was creating that SC (I put my hook into the new stitch, then into the row below, wrapped the yarn around hook and pulled it through). You do not have to tack the collar down during the last row of stitching if that is confusing or too difficult, you can still stitch it down afterwards with small scraps of thread.

-Finish off and then start with new thread on the bottom ruffle of the cape
- SC in the first 3 sts, then continue across with the pattern of chain 3, SC in next sts, then make sure to SC in the last 3 sts of the row, chain 1, turn
- SC across
- Finish off

* Now you can take an extra scrap of yarn and weave it through the bottom of the collar area, leaving a tail out on each side of the top of the cape. You can now use this thread to tie the cape closed with a bow.

how to create your own easy crochet doll clothes patterns

I have plenty of clothing patterns available on this blog, free for personal use, but what about that random doll that you love that I haven't created for? I have simple dress, tops, pants, and skirt patterns in all different types of yarns for many popular dolls, but I thought I might give some tips on how to create these same basic clothing pieces for any doll that you might own.

Tube Dress

Step #1: Picking your yarn.
The smaller the doll, the smaller the yarn. I usually try to get yarns that are more like fingering yarn for fashion dolls, or a little bigger. However, you can most definitely use thicker yarns like Red Heart. With a larger doll, such as an American Girl sized doll, I would definitely pick the thicker yarn. A yarn can definitely be too thick for small dolls though!

Barbie Dress with a Bow Free Crochet Pattern

Created by Paperdollmom, Copyright 2015

Materials Needed: Vanna's Choice Lion Brand Yarn, a scrap piece of a contrasting color, and an I hook

The Dress
-Chain 16, SC in the first chain made to form a loop
-SC around for a total of 8 rounds
-2 SC in each stitch around
-SC around for 6 more rounds
-Finish off

The Bow
For the bow in the front, I took the long scrap piece of yarn and wove it into the row around the waste (the same row that I added 2 SC in each stitch). I started in the front, leaving a tail, ended in the front, and used both tails of yarn to tie a ribbon in a double tie so that it holds. I also knotted each end to keep it from fraying

Long Sleeve Sweater Dress Free Crochet Pattern for Large Strawberry Shortcake Styling Doll, Disney Princess dolls, and Barbie dolls

Created by Paperdollmom, Copyright, 2015

Materials needed: Impeccable Yarn and a size I hook

Beginning at the bottom of the dress:

-Chain 23, DC in 3rd chain from the hook
-DC across, chain 3, turn. Continue to do so until you have completed 5 rows of DC.
-DC in first 3 stitches, chain 4, skip 4, DC in next stitch
-Now start working the sleeve of the arm. [Chain 3, and now work a total of 12 DC around the armhole, the first chain 3 counting as 1. Slip stitch to the top of the first, chain 3, and continue to work in rounds until the arm is a total of 4 rows. Finish off the arm.]
-Starting with the yarn once again, making sure to start with a slip stitch through the top of the very last DC in the main row. DC in the next 6 stitches, chain 4, skip 4. DC in the next stitch.
-Repeat [ ] to complete the second arm hole.
-Starting with the yarn once again, making sure to start with a slip stitch through the top of the very last DC in the main row. DC in the last 2 stitches of the row. Chain 3, turn.
-DC across while decreasing 7 stitches across.
-Now slip stitch down half of the back of the dress on that one side only, then slip stitch down the last half of the back of the dress with both sides together to close only the bottom half of the dress.
-Finish off the last yarn ends (there should have been a total of 6 on the entire project).
-Cut a strand of yarn, knotting both ends to prevent fraying. Use this yarn strand to tie the top half of the back of the dress together in a bow.
*The flower hair accessory in Strawberry's hair was created using a flower loom in the normal way to create a simple flower. I then took a bobby pin and slip it through the back of the flower to place in her hair.

Homemade Replacement Cutie Pops Hair

I've had this idea for some time, and just finally went ahead and followed through. I thought I would put the idea out there for all those moms with little girls who have lost all their Cutie Pops hair, or have found their hair in a disastrous clump! It is quite simple, and allows one to really get creative by picking different types and colors of yarn. So here we go:
Materials needed: yarn, scissors, pencil, thick sheet of foam, and crochet hook (optional)

Step #1: You will need a thick sheet of foam that can be found in craft stores, costing about $.99 each. These sheets are thicker than the general foam sheets found, and one sheet will make a TON of bases for new Cutie Pops hair. You will need to trace the heart at the bottom of an existing hair piece, which is no easy task with the nob poking out of the bottom! But this heart does not have to be perfect. I would suggest keeping your first one to use to trace for others so that you don't have to keep doing this awkward step over and over again. You can also gently push the foam sheet against the heart on the head until it leaves an impression. Then you can cut that out to use as your base. Make sure that your heart fits snuggly into the heart shaped hole on the doll's head.

Step #2: You now need to cut a small slit into each side of the heart to allow a piece of yarn to slide into it. Make sure to use the same color as the yarn you will use for the pony tail so that it can easily blend in.

Step #3: Cut a bunch of strands of yarn all the same length, making sure that the length is exactly how long you want the pony tail to be when it is folded in half. So, basically, the length should be double how long you want the hair to be in the end. You can cut a lot of yarn or a small amount of yarn. You can mix yarns or use all the same, it is up to you!

Step #4: Pull the yarn around the foam heart snug and place the bundle of yarns pieces you cut in the previous step on the opposite side of the heart, wrapping that initial strand of yarn that is slid into the sides of the heart, around the bundle, tying a knot. Make sure to try and place this knot around the center of the larger bundle of yarn pieces.

Step #5: Cut another strand long enough to blend in with the rest, tying it around the entire bundle of yarn as depicted in the picture. Tie this yarn in a knot and allow it to blend with the rest of the yarn. This is also a good time to snip all the ends so that they are even.

This is what your new pony tail should look like! You may need to make 2 if you own a Cutie Pops doll with 2 pigtails. You can actually be finished if this works for you, or you could take the crochet hook and any type of yarn to crochet a little hair thing to go around the base of the pony tail. For mine, I used an I hook and Red Heart yarn, making a loop of 6 chains and 1 row of DC stitches. Very simple! You could also just create a long chain with a couple of rows of SC to use as a ribbon to tie around the pony tail. Or even an actual ribbon! Just be creative and have fun!

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that it will help add a bit of beauty and fun to an old doll! And if you want to crochet a matching dress for your Cutie Pops, you can click here for a free pattern!

easy ribbed scarf free crochet pattern

Created by paperdollmom, Copyright 2015

This pattern is extremely easy to work up, and should finish just under 5 inches wide and approximately 48 inches long.
One skein of Red Heart Super Saver Yarn (100% Acrylic, 364 yards) will be enough yarn to crochet 2 complete scarves with a tiny ball of yarn leftover. This is a perfect scarf pattern to use for crochet charities or gifts!
I'm sure this pattern may be similar to many others, as it is a very basic scarf, using very basic stitches, but I specifically created this pattern with these dimensions to meet the requirements needed to be donated to Operation Gratitude.

Materials: Red Heart Yarn (or something similar) and a size I hook

Step #1: Chain 168, DC into the 4th chain from the hook and across, chain 3, turn

Step #2: DC in the back loop of each stitch across, chain 3, turn. Continue to DC in the back loops across each row until you have completed a total of 10 rows of DC
If you do not know what a back loop is, please click here to see a picture that will show you clearly.

Step #3: Finish off!

* This pattern is easy to adjust if you want to crochet a different sized scarf. To change the width, simply add or leave off rows, and to change the length, add or leave off chains in the first step. If crocheting in the back loops is too difficult for you, you can still complete the scarf using the basic DC stitches, needing only a total of 8 rows rather than 10.

Happy Crocheting!

free crochet scarf pattern: puffed rows

Created by paperdollmom, Copyright 2015

Materials needed: Red Heart Yarn (or something similar) and an I hook

Puff Stitch: Yarn over and insert hook into desired stitch, pull a yarn loop through so that you now have 3 loops on your hook. Repeat this 3 more times, until you have 9 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 9 loops.

-Chain 168, DC in the 4th chain from the hook and across, chain 3, turn
-*DC in first stitch, Puff Stitch in next (repeat across, ending in a DC stitch). Chain 3, turn
-DC across, chain 3, turn
-Repeat row *, chain 3, turn
-You will be alternating rows of just DC across, and a row of DC and Puff Stitch (as explained in *), until you have 9 complete rows. The first and last will be rows of just DC across.
-Finish off.

*This pattern will create a scarf around 5 inches wide and approximately 48 inches long. You can easily adjust these dimensions by adding or leaving off rows, or adding or leaving off chains in the first step. It is important to note that the number of DC stitches across each row should be an odd number to allow for the alternate puff stitches and a DC at the end of each row.

one skein infinity scarf free crochet pattern

Created by paperdollmom, Copyright 2015

Materials: one skein of Loop & Thread Impeccable Yarn and a size I hook

-Chain 180, slip stitch to the very first chain you made (making sure the chain is not twisted) to form a loop
-Chain 3 (first DC) and DC around, slip stitch to the top of the first DC to end round
-Chain 3 (first DC of new round), and DC around. Continue to repeat the rounds until you have a total of 5 rows (or more if you want your scarf to be thicker, however you will need more than one skein)
-On the sixth round, immediately start into the fun edging. Chain 3 (first DC), then 4DC in the first space between the first 2 DC stitches from the previous row. Drop stitch and pick up the top of the first DC stitch you just made, then add the stitch you dropped, and pull the yarn through both stitches. This is kind of like a popcorn, but less DC stitches, as I wasn't liking how the full popcorn looked.
-Chain 3, then do another altered popcorn stitch in the next 3rd space between the DC stitches in the previous row (so you are skipping 2 spaces, and crocheting in the third space). Then chain 3, and continue to repeat this pattern around.
-You can finish this off, then start this edging over again using the horizontal stitch that runs across the ends of each row instead of the DC spaces. You will continue to chain 3 between each  stitch you make, and skip 2 between each, exactly like the previous row of stitches. I ran this edging along the middle row of those horizontal stitches. Hope this picture helps to explain what I am talking about:
-Finish off! If you want to make it bulkier, you can crochet the edging around the top  row as well, but again, you will need a second skein of yarn. You could definitely make this scarf more full with a second skein, but adding maybe 1 or 2 more initial rounds, and crocheting more rows of edging, however, using the one skein is still beautiful and cozy!

handwarmers free crochet pattern

Created by paperdollmom, Copyright 2015

Materials: Loop & Thread Impeccable Yarn and a size I hook

MAKE 2:
-Chain 24, slip stitch in the first chain made, chain 2 (counts as the first DC of the round), DC in the next stitch
-DC around for a total of 3 rounds, making sure at the end of each round to slip stitch in the top of the first DC and chain 2
-2 DC (3 including the very first chain 2 stitches of the round), chain 5, skip 5 stitches, DC the rest around, slip stitch in the top of the first DC, chain 2, DC in the next DC (you have created the row with the thumb hole)
*When you make a second one, I would create the thumbhole towards the end of the round rather than the beginning, that way both handwarmers will have the "seam" of the rounds going underneath the hands rather than on top.
-DC around for a total of 8 rounds after the thumb hole
-Finish off

*My hands are somewhat small, I am guessing, so if you need a larger handwarmer, I would just start the initial chain big enough to fit around the thickest part of your hand and wrist, and go from there. Need it longer or shorter around the wrist or fingers? Easily adaptable by adding rows or leaving rows off. The bones of this pattern is rounds of DC, each row the same, aside from the one with the thumbhole, which is simply chaining 5 and skipping 5. I would say it would even be easy to use for kids size warmers, just knock down the initial chain to fit the child and maybe lower the thumbhole to only 3 or 4 stitches. Have fun and stay warm!

Cutie Pops doll dress and hat free crochet pattern

Created by paperdollmom, Copyright 2015

*I believe this should also fit Moxie dolls. Their clothes seemed to be interchangeable.

Materials: Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn and a size I hook

DRESS
-Chain 19, DC in second stitch from the hook
-DC across the row, chain 2, turn
-Complete 4 more rows of DC across, making sure to chain 2 and turn at the end of each
-DC across while decreasing 1 stitch 3 times, chain 2, turn
-DC across while decreasing 1 stitch 2 times, chain 2, turn
-DC across while decreasing 2 stitch 2 times, chain 2, turn
-DC across
-Slip stitch down the back of the dress to close it
-Finish off

* Her arms will fit through the DC stitches.

HAT

-DC around
-Repeat DC around until you have a total of 3 rounds of DC, slip stitch into the top of the first DC, chain 2

-DC in next stitch, decrease 1 stitch around, slip stitch into the top of the first DC, chain 2,

-Finish off

Winx Club ear warmers free crochet pattern

Created by paperdollmom, Copyright 2015

Materials: Bernat Softee Baby Yarn and a size I hook

-Chain 15, slip stitch to first chain to form a ring, chain 1
-DC in same stitch and around (15 stitches total), slip stitch into first DC made, chain 1, DC in same stitch and around while decreasing a stitch 3 times
-Slip Stitch to the first DC in the row and finish off

*Should fit Barbies, and should be easy to adapt, just simple add stitches to the initial chain for a doll with a larger sized head, such as Monster High dolls.

Winx Club free crochet shirt pattern, easily adaptable for any fashion doll

Created by paperdollmom, Copyright 2015

Materials: Bernat Softee Baby Yarn and a size I hook

Starting at the bottom of the shirt:

-Chain 21, DC in 3rd from hook
-DC across (19 sts) for a total of 3 rows (remember to ch 2 and turn at the end of each row)
-DC across next row, while decreasing a stitch 3 times, ch 2, turn
-1 row of DC, ch 2, turn
-DC across next row, while decreasing a stitch 3 times
-Slip stitch down the back to close the shirt

-Finish off

*I created this shirt to be a bit bigger than usual, to allow for the doll to also wear crocheted bottoms. The dolls arms simply go through the spaces between the DC stitches. If you push the arms through the first top row of DC stitches, the shirt appears more as a tank top, and if you use the second row of DC stitches, the shirt appears more as a t-shirt, which is pictured above. I slipped her arms through two different rows by accident and discovered this awesomeness! I also added the scrap tail of yarn I cut off around her waist for an added something special.

**This pattern also fits Barbie dolls, though is a bit tighter, revealing more skin from beneath as the stitches are spaced out DC stitches. It will definitely fit Barbie dolls great, but if you prefer the bulkier look as in the picture above, I would maybe add 5 stitch in your beginning chain, and work the pattern as normal, knowing you will be starting out with rows of 24 over 19. I am pretty sure they would fit Ever After High pretty well, I think their body sizes are more comparable to Winx Club. Might be a tad big on Monster High dolls...but again, I'm sure it could work, you could leave off a couple stitches in the initial chain for Monster High if you think it needs to be smaller. A very simple, easily adaptable pattern for any fashion doll!

***This pattern could also be made much longer to create a dress of various lengths.

Merry Christmas from Maleficent! A free crochet dress pattern

I was lucky enough today to have a little girl of mine desiring so badly to give me her gift, that she wore Dad down, and I was able to open it! I am absolutely in love with this Maleficent doll, which I have been wanting for some time. I decided today that she needed a Christmas dress...
This dress does fit Barbie dolls, however, I would probably make the smallest waist area maybe 2 or 3 extra stitches, it was a little snug there to get on (though was still possible). The open back for Maleficent's wings is also fine on a Barbie, it does not look odd, simply looks like an open back dress, and does stay on just fine!

Created by paperdollmom, Copyright 2014

Materials needed: Red Heart Shimmer yarn in red, variegated Christmas colored crochet thread, and a size H and F hook.

Starting from the bottom of the dress, using the Read Heart Shimmer yarn and a size H hook:

mini American Girl doll short tank crochet pattern

Created by paperdollmom, Copyright 2014

Materials needed: size 10 crochet thread and a siz 2 hook

- Chain 41, DC in the third chain from the hook and across, Ch 2 and turn

- DC across each of the 39 stitches, Ch 2, turn (repeat this step again, bringing it to a total of 3 full rows of DC)

- DC in the first 7 sts, Ch 5, skip the next 5 sts, DC in the next 24 sts, CH 5, skip the next 5 sts, DC in the last 7 sts, Ch 2, turn

- DC in the first 2 sts, combine the next two sts, continue to DC across while combining 2 sts over each armhole and combing 2 sts (twice) in the middle of the row; also combine 2 sts when there is 4 sts left, and DC in the remaining 2 sts. This means you will be combining 2 sts for a total of 6 times throughout this row.

- repeat the previous step, though using SC rather than DC

- finish off

-cut a longer piece of crochet thread and just lace the back closed, similar to tying a shoe (after you put the shirt on your doll)

* The skirt is also easily sewed, and can be adapted to any length. I simply cut a small strip of stretchy fabric that does not need to be hemmed because it does not fray, and stitched 4 pleats across the front. I did not pleat the entire skirt because I simply stitched the entire back of the skirt closed. If pleated all the way across, the sewing would prevent the fabric from stretching (which is needed to put it onto your doll without Velcro or snaps). For an easy tutorial that helps to explain how I sewed this skirt, please check out this lovely YouTube video created by Disney Ever After that opened my eyes up to how simple it is to sew doll clothes.
